Eisteddfod yr Urdd
Ni fydd Ysgol Pendalar yn cystadlu yn yr Eisteddfod eleni oherwydd y bygythiad parhaol sydd yn bodoli ers blynyddoedd i’r unig gystadleuaeth llwyfan sydd ar gael i Ysgolion Arbennig. Teimlwn yn gryf bod rhaid gwneud protest er mwyn sicrhau dyfodol y gystadleuaeth oherwydd mae gan ein plant hawl i gael y cyfle i gystadlu ar lwyfan Eisteddfod yr Urdd.

"The right to compete- the ‘Yeessss’ Factor!
The Urdd have offered Special Schools a chance to ‘perform’ at their annual National Eisteddfod thus clearing the way for the abolition of the Creative music for schools with Special Educational Needs competition once and for all. We feel that our pupils have the right to ‘compete’ also.
What is the difference between performing and competing?
With performing you get a ‘waw’ factor which can be a fantastic sensation but when competing there is an added ‘yeessss’ factor which involves different and deeper types of emotions. It is why our favourite football teams get bigger crowds for cup games than they do for pre-season friendly games. It is about that added knot in your stomach and that extra concentration and determination needed in any competition.
Our pupils get the ‘y’ word many times during the process of the Eisteddfod competition.
‘Yeessss’ I’ve been chosen to be in the band.
This man/woman is coming to see if we are good enough to go on stage at the Eisteddfod.
‘Yeessss’ we’ve got through!
‘Yeessss’ band practice – no sums today!
‘Yeessss’ I’ve got my new polo shirt to wear at the Eisteddfod.
‘Yeessss’ The big day has arrived.
‘Yeessss’ It’s a brand new bus with videos!
‘Yeessss’ we’ve arrived….look at all those people.
‘Yeessss’ It’s time to go backstage, we’ll be on in a minute.
I’m really nervous…………I’m on stage………..concentrate hard…..look at Enid all the time…we want to win.
‘Yeessss’ what a feeling, are those people clapping me and my friends?
‘Yeessss’ WE WON! Why are our teachers and Mum crying???
‘Yeessss’ we’re getting our picture taken because WE WON!
‘Yeessss’ I really feel on top of the world!
‘Yeessss’ we’re on TV because WE WON!
Our pupils also learn about another emotion- learning how to lose gracefully and being able to congratulate the other competitors.
Oh well Faenol Festival next…singing in the choir, I can relax and enjoy that, we’re only performing!" |
