Parent Partnership Group (4)
In this week's meeting Rachel Hudson from Derwen came to speak regarding toiletting issues. This is what was discussed:
1. Rachel and Helen discussed toileting tips, plans and challenges with parents.
2. The common concern for parents was "how and when" to start. Derwen talked about the support they offer and about the change in best practice to prepare for toilet training. The best practice now is to start as early as possible and not to wait for "signs".
3. The nurses discussed incontinence products and services, visual timetables, aids and timesheets for 'communication between different settings'.
4. Discussion regarding how toileting issues such as bladder retention, constipation and diarrhoea can have major effects on behaviour and serious implications for health.
5. Discussed around the vital need for good communication to keep an eye on any changes and early signs of problems.
6. The nurses were keen to help and it was suggested about coming into school to run workshops with families and staff in the summer term.
More information regarding the workshop will follow when a date has been arranged.
